ComicBase Tip:
ComicBase 12: New File Locations
For the past decade or so, ComicBase has been storing all its files, by default, under the C:\Program Files\Human Computing folder, with subfolders for each installed version of ComicBase (e.g. C:\Program Files\Human Computing\ComicBase 10).
Each version’s database, by default, would live in another subfolder called “Program Data” within the respective version’s folder. So, for example, a version 10 database would be called C:\Program Files\Human Computing\ComicBase 10\Program Data\ComicBase Database.cba
For the past several years, however, Microsoft has been hinting—and is now demanding—that things change. Programs other than installers can no longer freely write to the Program Files folder; a program’s support files are now meant to be stored in an “Application Data” folder; and user documents should be stored in a “My Documents” folder—with the exception of documents which are meant to be shared in common amongst any number of users on the same machine (such as ComicBase’s Pictures and Movies). These go in a “Public” or “Shared documents” folder—the exact name of which varies according to your OS. Anyone else confused yet?
The good news is that with the exception of the database, and possibly the Pictures folders, none of this is of great concern for most users. For the record, though, here are the new default locations of the important ComicBase’s files:
