Important information for the Macintosh downloads:

  • Some vesions of Netscape Navigator have a bug which can cause it to not properly recognize these files as downloads. To circumvent this, download the files by clicking and holding on the name of the file you’re downloading. Then, when a menu appears, choose “Save this link as...”
  • Most of these files require Stuffit Expander 5.1 or later to decompress. Earlier versions may erroneously report the files as corrupted after downloading.

ComicBase 7.0.1 (Mac) Updater (160 K)

Changes new issue defaults in ComicBase 7.0, and adds auto-incrementing of issue month when creating new issues.

ComicBase 6.0.4 (Mac) Updater (228 K)

New revision to make "Sell" compatible with new changes to our web server, and with MacOS X.

Works around an incompatibility problem affecting Macs with 1 GB of RAM. Adds the ability to play movies whose names are numbers (i.e. "300") from their title's page, and changes the name of the "Sin City" movie to "Sin City (Dark Horse)" so that it appears when you go to that title. Also, addresses a compatability issue which could make the progress bar stay onscreen after doing a quick change, as well as a few other bugs and features.

Most importantly, ComicBase 6.0.1 adds the ability to accept content updates over the web. Two new movies are posted as well as content fixes for July: after updating to 6.0.1, check for updates again and they'll appear.

ComicBase 5.0.2 (Mac) Updater (248 K)

Adds compatibility with MacOS 9.1,fixes the sizing of movie previews, handles pictures copied from the CDs to your hard disk better, and fixes the Remove Mature Readers Titles feature.

ComicBase 4.0.3 (Mac) Updater

Fixes Quick Change for marked issues and price, improves the way Mass Change does price changes, and fixes a glitch that can occur when printing found comics. Find Comics now also lets you search amongst the issues you have in stock-- not just the titles in stock.

ComicBase 3.0.4 (Mac) Updater (159 K)

Improves ComicBase's handling of issue #1,000,000 books, adds Quick Change for Artist and Writer info, fixes a bug in Export Price List and Find Comics report printing, and improves the appearance of ComicBase under System 8.

ComicBase 3.0 (Mac) Updater (723 K)

Requires the ComicBase 3.0 CD

Fixes a problem which could confuse the old updater, causing it to create many blank records after each title, bloating the updated ComicBase and taking extra hours to complete.

ComicBase 2.0.2 (Mac) Updater (40 K)

Updates version 2.0.1 of ComicBase. Fixes a problem which prevents Export Price List from working properly. Make sure you've updated your ComicBase to version 2.0.1 before using this updater.

ComicBase 1.3.1 (Mac) Updater (45 K)

After downloading, launch your copy of ComicBase, then choose the Setup menu's "Install ComicBase Update" command to make the fix.

ComicBase 1.2.2 (Mac) Updater (114 K)

Windows Software

ComicBase 8.0.3 (Windows) Update (11.9 MB)

Adds command key shortcuts for text styles, and automatically reformats pasted title descriptions to match ComicBase style. Fixes a couple of glitches in the initial release, and adds new features suggested by customers at the ComicBase User's Group meeting in San Diego. Notably, issues you own are now highlighted in green, making them much easier to see in the lists. See the Release Notes for the full details. Recommended for all users.

ComicBase Cover Gallery Screen Saver

Suggested by ComicBase customer John Simpson, here's the ComicBase Cover Gallery Screen Saver for Windows. It fills your screen with randomly chosen covers from your ComicBase's Pictures folder in a continually updating display. After installing it use your Windows Display control panel to choose it as your screen saver and set the location of your Pictures folder. It works with the Pictures found in ComicBase 5 and later.

Internet Explorer users can install it directly from the web (360K)

Alternately, you can download the installer program (3.8 MB).

ComicBase 8 Demo for Windows (53.8 MB)

A demonstration version of ComicBase 8 for Windows. Lets you see ComicBase in action, in a time-limited demo that is fully functional with the exception of importing and exporting. Includes sample data from Spider-Man, Batman, and Amalgam titles--a tiny subset of the 16.000+ titles/200,000+ issues in the full version. This is a large download--if you prefer, you can order the ComicBase 8 Demo Disk instead. The $10 cost includes a $10 credit for your purchase of ComicBase.

ComicBase Picture Installer 3.0.2 (930 K)

*Only used by ComicBase 7 and earlier. ComicBase 8 users should use the File Menu's Manage Pictures and Movies command instead of the old Picture Installer program.

This utility copies files from the ComicBase CD and Bonus Disks to your hard drive so ComicBase can be run without having the CDs inserted. Replaces v3.0 (from the initial release of ComicBase 7) which would not always copy Image and Dark Horse pictures properly. If you are having trouble viewing Dark Horse or Image pictures from within ComicBase 7, try downloading this version of the installer and using it to reinstall the pictures from your ComicBase 7 Program Disk and/or Bonus Disk 2. ComicBase 7.0.1's new Manage Pictures command will also work for putting any misplaced pictures in the proper location.

Note to Windows XP users: If you have problems with the program seeming to stall while copying, chances are good that it's still working, but that the progress bar is not being updated. This appears to be a conflict between Windows XP and the development environment the Picture installer was written in, and we are seeking a solution. In the meantime, please give the program time to complete, or try running it under Windows 2000 compatibility mode by right-clicking on the Picture Installer icon and choosing "Compatibility" from the Properties menu that appears.

ComicBase 7.0.4 (Windows) Update (19.6 MB)

Includes various bug fixes, as well as adding new features such as a "Manage Pictures" command which automagically reorganizes your Pictures folder, resolving file names, adding file extensions, and more. It also includes lots of small improvements to everything from more detailed ad posting, to automatic incrementing of cover dates when you add new issues.

Sadly, this version also disables the "Sell Comics" feature, since eBay has changed their software in such a way that it makes it virtually impossible for third-party programs such as ComicBase to post ads to their site. eBay has, however, released new posting tools of their own (PC only). See www.ebay.com for details.

Recommended for all users. Get the ComicBase 7 Reports Update as well, which lets you select whether cost is included on Basic and Detailed Price List reports

ComicBase 6.0.4 (Win) Updater (6.4 MB)

  • Compatible with recent changes made to the ComicBase web server.
  • Makes ComicBase compatible with Windows XP
  • Improves the log messages written when upgrading to a new version of ComicBase.
  • Prevents problems that can occur when upgrading to a new version, if the old version of ComicBase has an out-of-sync titles in stock list.
  • When upgrading from an old version, ComicBase now automatically matches titles whose names differ by punctuation from their proper names (e.g. if they were added without using curved quotes, etc.). Whenever such a match is done, a log message is also written.
  • If you choose to create a new title when importing, ComicBase also imports the issues of that title.
  • Allows Mass Change to change the contents of custom issue fields
  • Prevents users from blanking out years, which could cause an error.
  • Prevents an error message which could occur after choosing "Save a Copy..."
  • Rebuild Lists > Issue Information now scans for and corrects any invalid characters that may have snuck their way into the Notes field.
  • Makes ComicBase content updates work under Windows 2000
  • Automatically clears the "Read Only" bit on the database (which might have been set if the database was backed up to, and restored from, a CD-R)
  • The Content Updates window is now resizable, and allows you to more easily download files whose names include spaces.
  • Avoids carrying over old price history when you upgrade from an old version of ComicBase and indicate that you want to reprice issues; the new version's price history is used instead.
  • Holding down the Alt Key and clicking on a picture will reveal that picture's original file in the Windows Explorer. Holding down the Alt key and clicking on the publisher name will reveal the publisher's picture folder in the Windows Explorer.
  • Changes File Tools > Rebuild List of Issues > Issue Information to do clean-up across the database, removing duplicate information which tends to pile up over time due to slight differences such as "1st appearance of THE Punisher" vs. "1st appearance Punisher" These could easily get carried from version to version when upgrading, making silly notes like "1st appearance of the Punisher; 1st appearance Punisher". The new Files Tools > Rebuild Lists > Issue Information clears these up, as well as duplicate storylines, artist, and writer credits.
  • ComicBase can now download and process content upgrade files to fix errors and typos in the database. Once you run this update, choose "Check for Program Updates" and you'll see the July update. It can also download new movies and other content (two new movies are included for testing).
  • Adds better sorting for pictures of variant covers.
  • Renames the Sin City movie to "Sin City (Dark Horse)" if it's been copied to your hard drive, so that it appears when viewing the Sin City title in ComicBase.
  • Addresses a reporting incompatibility with certain versions of Crystal Reports
  • Fixes an error that could occur when repeatedly selecting the same title to print when printing individual price labels. Also revamped the entire Select Issues dialog.
  • Made the Select Issues and Select Title dialogs resizable. Also, improved the way selection works on both dialogs.
  • ComicBase will now detect the presence of a picture disk whenever it is inserted--not just when the program starts. It will also detect the presence of a network drive with a ComicBase Data folder in it to allow picture serving over the network.
  • Improved the way editing descriptions works, and solved a glitch which would misremember font settings.
  • Worked around a bug present in some numeric keypads which causes them to send a Ctrl-B whenever the "2" key was pressed--activating the internet "Buy" command. (Yes, this was a weird one).

Comic Collector Converter 2.7 (2.7 MB)

Cleans up Comic Collector export files so that they can be imported more easily into ComicBase. The new version works with all versions of Comic Collector (including Comic Collector 1.0!), and includes revised documentation. See the documentation for the full details on this program.

ComicBase 5.0.5 (Win) Updater (3.56 MB)

Better keyboard/cursor handling when doing updates, as well as better tracking of updates when changing records by typing into the Modify Issues screen.

Does a better job of handling Null and invalid date fields when importing and exporting. Also fixes a problem importing/exporting custom fields whose names are very long. Also adds an assortment of bug fixes and new features to ComicBase, including revised reports, new keyboard shortcuts, and various program changes. The updater contains a full list of changes.

ComicBase 4.0.5 (Win) Updater (1.2 MB)

Note: Same as ComicBase 4.0.4, exept it now gives a better message when asking if you're upgrading from ComicBase 3, when first using the new program. The updated version will still bear the version number "4.0.4"

Works with ComicBase 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.0.3, or 4.0.4. Adds a "Duplicate" button to Modify Issues, includes several small bug fixes, and cosmetic changes. See the ComicBase 4.0.4 release notes for the full list of changes. Uses a new updating technology from MindVision which allows it to automatically detect the version of ComicBase you have installed and do the appropriate updating.

VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you download and install the ComicBase 4 System Files Update if you are updating to ComicBase 4.0.4 or later from a previous version. If you have installed ComicBase 4.0.4 or later from the CD, you do not need to run the system files update.

Reports Updater (76 K)

Previously included with the ComicBase 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 updaters. Not necessary if you've already run the reports updater as part of those updates.

Updates the ComicBase Price List report to fix a bug on the price list report which repeated the Year 1 price as Year 4 when generating a detailed price list report.

ComicBase 3.1 (Win) Update (1.7 MB)

This is special-purpose update for people who wish to use their ComicBase 3 after ComicBase 4 (or its demo) has been installed. This update is necessary since several system files needed for ComicBase 4 are incompatible with previous versions of ComicBase. The update also fixes movie play with Windows 98.

ComicBase 3.0.6 (Win) Update (2.3 MB)

Adds support for foreign currency reporting, adds support for DC's #1,000,000 issues, makes navigating between titles easier, speeds data entry, and fixes bugs in Find Comics and report printing. Other improvements as well. This release includes fixes to an obscure import situation, more robust handling of improperly entered issue numbers, and a fix to the auto-issue update introduced in the last build.
